We Broke Ground!

Gita Nandan, Elliott Maltby and Mark Mancuso, principals at thread collective recently embarked on a project to practice what we preach; construction of a sustainable four story, three unit building has just gotten underway in the heart of the Bushwick neighborhood in Brooklyn. thread collective is a design firm whose passions lie in the depths of overlapping disciplines - landscape and architecture, art and space, sustainability and function. thread, in the field will showcase the process and our experiences as they unfold creating a forum to explore our thoughts as developer, architect, and homeowner. We have the unique opportunity, wearing many hats in the building process, and we will bring you our thoughts, observations, ideas, and lessons learned throughout the next year.

Trout House –  our working title – is set to be built to LEED for Homes standards, with our goal between Silver and Gold rating. A primary focus will be energy efficiency; not only in conservation but also at the source through specific construction methods and materials, energy modeling, alternative energy sources, and the optimization of mechanical equipment.

With the opening of the blog we want to give a generous thanks to our family and friends who have showed continued support.
